verbnoun

Pronunciation

UK

  • /θˈɪŋk/

US

  • /ˈθɪŋk/

Description

To think is more than just what happens inside your head—it's how you process the world! You think about problems to solve them, you think of loved ones when they're far away, and you think before you leap. It can mean believing something is true ("I think it will rain"), considering a possibility ("I need to think about that offer"), or even simply imagining things ("Let's think big!").

Sometimes "think" is a polite way of disagreeing—"I think I see it differently." And if someone asks what you think of their new haircut, they want your honest (but hopefully kind!) thoughts. It's a fundamental human activity; we are constantly thinking, even when we don't realize it!
