To ignore something means to deliberately pay no attention to it; to refuse to acknowledge its existence or importance. It's more than simply not noticing—it's an active choice to disregard something, even when you are aware of it. For example: "She tried to warn him about the danger, but he ignored her advice," or "The politician chose to ignore the growing criticism."

Ignoring can apply to many things—people, requests, warnings, problems, or feelings. It's often used in situations where someone is avoiding something unpleasant or difficult. You might ignore a bill you can't afford to pay (though that's not usually a good idea!), or ignore the feeling of sadness hoping it will go away on its own.
