Separation is the act or process of dividing something into parts, moving it apart from something else, or the state of being apart. It is a versatile word that can apply to physical objects, emotional states, legal arrangements, and abstract concepts.

Imagine a chef carefully separating egg yolks from whites: that is a physical separation.
