The word "resume" has two common meanings. First, as a verb, it means to begin again after a pause or interruption. If you stop a movie to answer the door, you resume watching when you come back. If rain delays a game, play may resume later. The idea is not starting from the very beginning, but continuing from the point where things stopped.

Second, "resume" is also a noun, especially in job hunting. A resume is a short document that lists your education, work experience, skills, and other useful achievements. You send it to an employer so they can quickly understand your background and decide whether to interview you. In careful writing, this noun is often spelled resume or résumé, but many learners will see the plain form resume.

These two meanings are different, and context tells you which one is intended. In "The class will resume at two," it is a verb. In "Please attach your resume," it is a noun. So the word may describe continuing an activity after a break, or it may name the document that presents your work history to an employer.
