Description

Being is a small word with a very large reach. It can mean existence itself, as in "the mystery of being," or it can mean a living creature, as in "every human being deserves kindness."

Being is also a form of the verb be. If someone is being careful, they are acting carefully right now. If a house is being painted, the painting is happening now. In more thoughtful or literary contexts, being can point to a person's whole self: "Her entire being seemed filled with joy." And in the common phrase "for the time being," it simply means for now, until something changes.
