"Lucky" is a word we use when something good happens by chance or when a person seems to be favored by events. It usually suggests that the result was not fully planned or earned through effort alone. For example, saying, "She was lucky to find a parking spot downtown," means the space opened up at just the right moment.

You might describe someone as "lucky" if they win the lottery, avoid an accident, find something they had lost, or meet the right person at the right time. We also use it for smaller everyday moments: a team gets a point from a strange bounce, a traveler catches the last train, or a child picks the one toy with a prize inside. In all of these cases, the idea is the same: a good outcome arrived in a way that feels partly outside the person's control.
