Intensity refers to the quality of being strong, forceful, concentrated, or extreme. It is the degree to which something exists or manifests itself. It is a versatile word that applies to many different aspects of life—from physical phenomena to emotional states and even abstract concepts.

Consider a workout: you might start with low-intensity cardio, such as a gentle walk, and gradually increase the intensity by adding sprints or heavy weights. In music, intensity relates to volume and energy; a quiet ballad has much lower intensity than a heavy metal anthem.

It can also emphasize the strength of an interaction: "The debate was characterized by an intensity of disagreement."
