injector

B1
noun

Pronunciation

UK

  • /ɪndʒˈɛktə/

US

  • /ˌɪnˈdʒɛktər/

Description

An injector is a device or part that puts a liquid or gas into something, usually with pressure and control. Many people first think of medicine: a syringe or auto-injector can deliver a drug or vaccine into the body. But the word is also common in machines. A fuel injector in a car engine sprays fuel into the engine in a precise way. In most cases, the idea is the same: it is something made to send a fluid into a place where it is needed.
