The word "guess" describes the act of forming an opinion or making an estimate about something when you do not know all the facts. It is not always just a random choice. Often, it comes from signs, experience, or a feeling about what is most likely. For example, if a friend is acting strangely, you might guess that they have some kind of news.

As a verb, "guess" means to try to know or say something without being sure: "I guessed the answer on the test." It can also mean to suppose or think, which is a very common use in daily conversation: "I guess it will rain today, looking at those clouds."

The noun form, "a guess," refers to the estimation itself. "That's a good guess, but unfortunately, you're incorrect." We often use descriptive phrases like "wild guess" (a completely random attempt) or "educated guess" (an estimation based on some prior knowledge).

Whether you are playing trivia, solving a mystery, or simply trying to understand what is happening around you, guessing is part of everyday life. We use it when we lack certainty but still need an answer, a direction, or a starting point.
