The word "crush" is wonderfully versatile, carrying meanings that range from lighthearted affection to devastating force. In everyday English, one of the most common meanings is a brief but intense romantic interest—a crush on a classmate or celebrity. It captures the feeling of being captivated by someone, often without expecting anything in return: "She had a huge crush on the lead singer." You can also use it as a verb: "He’s crushing on his coworker."
