In the world of baseball and softball, a baseman is a key defensive player stationed at one of the three infield positions: first base, second base, or third base. While there are four bases in total, the player at home plate is known as the catcher, not a baseman. These athletes are the anchors of the infield, responsible for making "force out" plays by catching throws and fielding sharp ground balls. Each position requires a unique skill set: a first baseman often needs height and flexibility to catch errant throws, while a second baseman must be agile to turn double plays. They are the guardians of the diamond, standing ready to halt the progress of the opposing team.
