Imagine walking into a room where things are not quite in their place: books piled up, clothes hanging over chairs, and papers spread across the desk. That is untidy. It describes something that lacks order or neatness. A child might have an untidy bedroom after playing, and a cook might leave an untidy kitchen after making a big meal. It does not always mean dirty; something can be clean but still look untidy if it is not arranged well.
