A "spender" is not just anyone who buys things. It usually means someone who gives up their money easily, often more freely than is wise. Everyone has to spend money on basic needs, but a spender is more likely to enjoy extras, buy on impulse, or care less about sticking to a budget. The word can sound playful ("My sister is such a spender; she always buys the latest gadgets!") or critical ("He's a reckless spender and is always in debt."). The natural opposite is a saver, someone who tries to hold on to money instead of using it quickly.

The word "spender" describes a person who is known for spending money, often freely or impulsively. It is more than just buying something now and then. It suggests a habit or pattern, and sometimes it hints that the person does not manage money very carefully.

You might call someone a "big spender" if they are known for expensive tastes, such as fancy dinners, costly trips, or designer clothes. But the word does not always suggest wealth.
