To reach for something is to stretch out your hand to grab it—but the word goes far beyond just physical grasping! It can mean achieving a goal ("She reached her sales target"), extending as far as something else ("The forest reaches the coastline"), or even influencing someone ("His message reached many people"). Think of a long journey—you reach your destination. Or a helping hand—you reach out to offer support.

Sometimes, "reach" describes how far something extends: "The empire's reach was vast." Other times it's about what is possible for you to get or do: "This goal is beyond my reach." It's a flexible word that speaks to connection, success, and extension—both literally and figuratively.

The word reach has a surprisingly broad range of meanings, all centered around the idea of extending towards or attaining something. At its most basic, it describes the physical act of stretching out an arm or leg: "He reached for the book on the top shelf."
