To mention means to refer to something briefly or casually in speech or writing. It is less formal and detailed than explaining or discussing; it's about bringing a topic up without going into extensive detail. For example, saying "She mentioned she was planning a vacation" simply tells us that the person spoke about their travel plans—we don't know exactly where they're going or when.

The context of a mention is important. You might mention a concern to your doctor hoping for quick advice, or mention a colleague's success to your boss as a positive update. It can be used to introduce a topic, provide a quick piece of information, or simply acknowledge that something exists.
