classwork

C2
noun

Pronunciation

UK

  • /klˈɑːswɜːk/

US

  • /ˈklæsˌwɜrk/uncountablenoun

Description

"Classwork" refers to the tasks and activities students complete during scheduled class time, usually with a teacher available for guidance. It's different from homework, which you do outside of class (often on your own). Think of it as a way to practice what you're learning right then and there. A math class might include problems to solve after the teacher explains a new concept, or an English class could involve writing a paragraph in response to a prompt during the lesson. Sometimes classwork is graded, and sometimes it's just for practice—but the key idea is that it happens in class.
