The word "all" signifies the whole quantity or extent of something; every individual member of a group; or the entirety of a situation. It's deceptively simple, yet incredibly powerful in its scope. You might say "All the world's a stage," as Shakespeare famously wrote, meaning everyone plays a part in life's drama.

"All" can function in many ways. As a determiner, it modifies nouns: "all my friends," "all the apples." As a pronoun, it stands in for everything: "All were invited to the party." It can also be used as an adverb emphasizing completeness: "She sat all alone" or "It's gone all wrong."

With pronouns and more complex noun phrases, you'll often see all of: "all of us," "all of them," "all of the apples." It works naturally with plurals and uncountable nouns ("all cars," "all water"), and it can also appear in time expressions like "all day" or "all year."

Context is key! Saying "All are welcome" creates an inclusive atmosphere. Declaring "All bets are off!" signals a change in rules or circumstances. "All things considered," introduces a summary after careful thought. It can even express totality in time – "all day long" or "all year round."

Sometimes, "all" is used for emphasis: "It's all about timing!" Or to indicate completeness despite limitations: "That's all I need." From the grandest philosophical statements to everyday conversations, "all" represents wholeness, inclusion, and totality. It truly encompasses… well, everything.
