A surgeon is a doctor trained to treat people by doing operations. They use their hands, tools, and modern equipment to repair injuries, remove diseased tissue, or correct problems inside the body. Some work on the heart, brain, bones, skin, or other parts of the body, so their work is often very specialized. In everyday use, the word usually means a hospital doctor who performs operations. It can also be used in a figurative way for someone who makes very careful or very sharp changes.
