noun

Description

Singleness is most often the state of not being married. A person may enjoy their singleness, struggle with it, or simply see it as one part of life. In everyday use, this is the meaning most people will understand first.

The word can also mean a strong, undivided focus, as in "singleness of purpose." In older or more formal English, it can also mean sincerity, honesty, or simplicity of heart. All of these meanings grow out of the idea of being single, whole, or not divided.
