Description

A scenario is like a short story about what could happen. It is not always what is happening now. More often, it is a possible chain of events. You can think through different scenarios before making a big decision: "What if I say yes? What if I say no?" Emergency responders often train with realistic scenarios so they are ready for real-life crises, and teachers or trainers use them to help people practice how they would respond in a certain situation.

The word comes from the Italian scena, meaning "scene," and it is often used when planning ahead or imagining possibilities matters, such as in writing, research, business, or emergency planning. You will often hear phrases like "worst-case scenario" or "best-case scenario," which describe the most negative or most positive way something might turn out.
