Reproduction is not just about baby animals. In biology, it is the process by which living things make new living things of the same kind. A cat has kittens, a plant makes seeds, and bacteria divide to make more bacteria. But the word also has another common meaning: making something again or making a copy of it. You might reproduce a famous painting, or scientists might reproduce an experiment to check that the result is correct. In both meanings, the idea is the same: something is made again so that life, knowledge, or art can continue.

Reproduction is fundamentally about making more, either by producing new life or by making a new copy of something that already exists. In biology, it is the process through which living things produce offspring, allowing their kind to continue.
