rater

A2

Pronunciation

UK

  • /rˈeɪtə/

US

  • /ˈreɪtər/

Description

A rater is someone who judges or evaluates something. You can picture a judge at a dog show choosing the best dog, or a person checking how useful search results are online. But this idea is not limited to formal jobs or competitions. In daily life, you act like one when you leave a review for a restaurant, an app, or a product. The main idea is simple: this person gives an opinion or score based on some set of standards.
