The word "orc" usually refers to a large, ugly, human-like creature from fantasy fiction. The modern idea of the orc became widely known through J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, where these beings are linked with war, cruelty, and dark powers. They are often described as broad, strong, and frightening, sometimes with green, gray, or brown skin, heavy faces, and large teeth or tusks. In many stories, they appear as soldiers, raiders, or wild fighters.

Over time, the idea of the orc has changed. In some fantasy worlds, they are little more than violent monsters. In others, they are shown as a people with their own language, customs, families, and rules. Some stories still treat them as enemies, while others show them as more complex characters who can be loyal, proud, clever, or conflicted.
