To mineralize something is to add minerals to it or to cause minerals to form inside it. Often, this means that something natural, like wood or bone, slowly becomes harder and more stone-like. Think of an old tree turning into petrified wood over a very long time. The word also fits living things: bones and teeth are mineralized as minerals build them up and make them strong. It is usually a slow process, but it shows how minerals can change soft material into something firm and lasting.
