Beyond its biological role, laminin has occasionally drawn attention because one common diagram of its structure looks cross-like. That resemblance has inspired symbolic interpretations in some popular discussions, but those ideas are cultural rather than scientific. In normal use, the word mainly refers to the family of proteins that help form basement membranes and support cell attachment, signaling, and tissue organization.
