Heartlessness isn't about having a physical heart problem; it's about a lack of feeling for others. It describes a cold, uncaring nature and an unwillingness to show empathy or kindness. Think of the villain in a story who seems untouched by other people's pain. But it does not always appear as dramatic evil. Sometimes it is simply ignoring someone in need, brushing off their feelings, or acting with cruel disregard for the harm caused. A politician making decisions that hurt vulnerable people without remorse could be accused of heartlessness, just as much as a character who deliberately torments another. It is the absence of warmth where you would expect to find it.

Heartlessness is a deeply unsettling quality – the complete or near-complete lack of compassion, empathy, or consideration for others. It's more than simply being unkind; it suggests an emotional void, a disconnect from the suffering of those around you.
