The term "hacker" has undergone quite the evolution. Originally coined at MIT in the 1960s, it described enthusiastic programmers and hobbyists who loved to creatively solve problems—often pushing systems beyond their intended limits. This early "hacking" was about ingenuity and exploration, a playful pursuit of knowledge and technical mastery.

However, as technology became more widespread, so did the malicious use of these skills. The media began associating "hacker" primarily with individuals breaking into computer networks illegally to steal information or cause damage. These are the "black hat" hackers—those who exploit vulnerabilities for personal gain or disruption.

But it is crucial to understand that not all hackers are criminals. They are often employed by companies to proactively protect against cyberattacks.
