Demineralization is the process by which minerals are lost from a substance – be it living tissue like bones and teeth, or inorganic materials like stone and soil. It's more than just losing minerals; it's about disrupting the structural integrity of whatever is losing them. Think of building a wall with bricks (the minerals) held together by mortar. If you start removing those bricks, the wall becomes weaker and may eventually collapse.

In the human body, calcium and phosphate are key minerals that give bones their strength.
