Every piece of software and every website you visit relies on countless algorithms working behind the scenes.
Algorithms aren't limited to computers, though! Any step-by-step process can be considered an algorithm. Consider tying your shoes—there's a specific order you follow (loop, swoop, and pull!). Or consider following a recipe for baking a cake.
In computer science, a good algorithm is efficient—it solves the problem quickly and with minimal resources. There are algorithms for sorting data, searching databases, compressing files, and much more. Google's search engine uses incredibly complex algorithms to rank websites based on relevance. Social media platforms use algorithms to determine what content you see in your feed.
So, whether it's a simple set of instructions or a sophisticated computer program, an algorithm is the backbone of problem-solving—a clear, step-by-step path from input to output.
