warrantee

A warrantee is the person or entity to whom a warranty is made. In any legal or commercial agreement involving a guarantee, there are two primary parties: the warrantor (the one giving the promise, usually the seller or manufacturer) and the warrantee (the one receiving the promise). The warrantee is the beneficiary of the assurance that the goods or services provided will meet certain standards of quality and performance. If the product proves defective within a specified period, the warrantee is the person entitled to seek a repair, replacement, or refund.

It is very common for people to confuse "warrantee" with "warranty." While they sound nearly identical, "warranty" refers to the legal promise or agreement itself, whereas "warrantee" refers to the person or company protected by that promise. This difference matters in contracts, product sales, service agreements, and other formal situations where it must be clear who gives the promise and who receives the benefit.

In everyday conversation, you may hear "customer," "buyer," or "owner" more often, because warrantee is a formal word. Still, in legal and business writing, it is useful because it names the exact party that has warranty rights. So when you sign papers for a car, an appliance, or a service plan, the warranty is the protection, and the warrantee is the one who gets that protection.
