viewable

A2
adjective

Pronunciation

UK

  • /vjˈuːəbəl/

US

  • /vjˈuːəbəl/

Description

Something that's viewable can be seen or watched. It may be in plain sight, or it may be available for someone to look at. Think of a beautiful sunset: it is viewable if the clouds are not blocking it. A movie is viewable when people can watch it in a theater or online. It does not only refer to physical sight, though. A document shared on a drive is viewable by anyone with permission, even if they are not looking at it right now.

The word often suggests that something is open for viewing, like art in a gallery that is viewable by the public. Sometimes, something may be technically visible but not really easy to see because it is too far away or partly blocked. For instance, a tiny ship on the horizon is physically there, but it is barely viewable with the naked eye.
