However, excessive or prolonged vasoconstriction can be harmful. It can contribute to conditions like Raynaud's phenomenon, in which fingers and toes may turn white and numb, or to high blood pressure. Understanding vasoconstriction is important in medicine and biology because it affects many body functions. So, while it often goes unnoticed, vasoconstriction is a powerful process that helps your body adapt and survive.
