unconcernedly

B1
adverb

Pronunciation

UK

  • /ʌnkənsˈɜːnɪdlɪ/

US

  • /ʌnkənsˈɜːnɪdli/

Description

Imagine a cat sunning itself on a windowsill while a dog barks wildly below. The cat might stretch and yawn unconcernedly, completely unfazed by the commotion. To do something unconcernedly is to act without showing worry, stress, or much interest. It suggests a calm distance from whatever is happening around you. You might walk past a heated argument unconcernedly if it has nothing to do with you, or listen to a warning unconcernedly if you do not think it matters. The key idea is that the person shows little or no visible concern.
