Description

You might remember theta from geometry class. It is the eighth letter of the Greek alphabet, written as θ or Θ, and it is most often used to stand for an angle, especially in trigonometry. It can show how open an angle is or mark a position in a curve or circular system. But theta is not just for math. In science and engineering, it also appears as a general symbol in formulas, and in other fields you may see it in names such as theta waves or as the sign for the "th" sound in the International Phonetic Alphabet.
