Description

The little word "there" seems simple, but it does a lot. It can point to a place ("Over there!"), show that something exists ("There is a cat on the roof!"), or draw attention in a short exclamation ("There, that's finished."). Think of it as a helpful pointer that directs your attention, either to a place or to a situation. Don't confuse it with "their" (showing possession) or "they're" (short for "they are"). A good trick is to remember: there has "here" inside it, which can help you connect it with place.
