Telomeres are repeating stretches of DNA, along with related proteins, found at the ends of chromosomes. Scientists are actively studying telomere length and telomerase activity to better understand aging, cancer, and possible treatments for age-related illness.
The study of telomeres has greatly expanded our understanding of aging, genetics, and disease. So, while invisible to the naked eye, these tiny structures offer important clues about how our cells live, age, and stay healthy.
