Description

Imagine you're building with LEGO bricks. You have one big box of pieces. That big box is the category. But inside it, you sort the pieces by color: red bricks, blue bricks, and yellow bricks. Each color group is a subcategory of the larger "LEGO bricks" category.

A subcategory appears when you take a broad topic and break it into smaller parts. Think about "Music" as a category. Its subcategories could be "Rock," "Jazz," "Classical," or "Pop." It is all music, but different kinds of music. You will often see this in stores, like "Women's Shoes" under "Clothing," or on websites that sort many choices into smaller groups.
