The word "staffroom" usually refers to a room in a school that is set aside for teachers and other members of staff. It is the place they use when they are not teaching: they may drink tea or coffee, eat lunch, prepare lessons, mark work, read notices, or have quick conversations with coworkers. In most cases, students do not use this room, because it is meant to be a private working and break space for adults.

When people describe a staffroom, they are often talking about both rest and work at the same time. It may have tables, chairs, lockers, notice boards, and simple kitchen items like a kettle, microwave, or refrigerator. Some staffrooms are quiet, while others are full of conversation. In either case, the main idea stays the same: it is a shared room where school staff can pause, organize their work, and speak with one another during the day.

This word is especially common in British English. In American English, similar ideas are often expressed with terms like "teachers' lounge" or "faculty room." Sometimes the word can also be used in other workplaces for a room used by staff, but the school meaning is the one most people think of first.
