Description

Imagine a cool, smooth stone that feels almost silky to the touch - that is probably soapstone. It gets its name because it feels a bit like soap, but of course it is not used for washing. Soapstone is a soft metamorphic rock often used for carvings, countertops, and the inside parts of fireplaces and stoves. It can hold heat well, which makes it useful in homes. You might see soapstone in small sculptures, old stoves, or modern kitchens.
