"Seedy" is a fascinating word with a dual life, evolving from the garden to the gutter. Originally, it was a simple botanical term meaning "full of seeds." However, by the 18th century, it developed a much more evocative figurative meaning: rundown, disreputable, and suggestive of moral decay.

This shift likely came from the appearance of plants that have "gone to seed."
