Recency is the quality of being recent or having happened not long ago. Think about choosing a restaurant: you're more likely to remember the one you visited last week than the one you went to six months ago, because the newer visit feels closer in time.

It often matters in memory, news, and marketing because recent things can feel more noticeable or easier to recall. You might say, "Because of the recency of the event, it still feels fresh in my mind," meaning it happened quite recently.

Recency refers to the state of being recent, new, or close to the present time. At its core, it is simply about how recently something happened, appeared, or was experienced. The word is often used when time matters, especially when newer things stand out more than older ones.
