radiologist

C2
noun

Pronunciation

UK

  • /rˌeɪdɪˈɒlədʒˌɪst/

US

  • /ˌreɪdiˈɑlədʒɪst/

Description

Imagine your body has hidden stories—broken bones, tiny tumors, or signs of how your organs are working. A radiologist is the doctor who reads those stories through medical images. They are experts at interpreting X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, and ultrasounds to help other doctors find and treat illnesses. Think of them as detectives; instead of searching for clues at a crime scene, they look for clues inside your body. You would not usually visit one directly. Instead, another doctor usually sends your scan to them when expert image reading is needed.
