The word "quarryman" evokes images of rugged landscapes and hard physical labor. A quarryman is a man who works in a quarry, a place where stone is cut or taken from the earth. He does more than simply dig up rocks. He works to remove useful stone in blocks or pieces that can be used for building, paving, carving, or other practical purposes. Depending on the time period, he may use wedges, hammers, saws, drills, or even explosives to separate the stone from the rock around it.
