In this phase, the cell starts getting everything ready for division. The DNA, which is usually loose and threadlike, coils up into visible chromosomes, and the spindle begins to form to move them later. Think of it as the cell getting set for the hard work ahead. Without this stage, cells could not divide properly, and that is essential for growth and repair in living things.
Prophase is the first stage of mitosis, the process in which one cell divides to form two identical daughter cells. It is an important phase because it prepares the cell for successful division and helps make sure each new cell gets a complete set of genetic information.
Think of it like getting ready for a complex building project. During prophase, the cell starts to reorganize itself and put the right tools in place for division.
