The word "politicization" describes the process of transforming something previously considered non-political into a matter of political debate, power struggles, and partisan conflict. It's more than just discussing politics around an issue; it's about fundamentally reshaping how that issue is understood and approached through a political framework.

Imagine a local park renovation project. Initially, it might be seen as a community improvement effort focused on recreation and green space. But if different political groups start framing the project around issues like funding priorities (taxpayer money vs. other needs), environmental regulations (supporting or opposing them), or even symbolic representation (what kind of features reflect certain values), that's politicization in action.

Politicization often involves assigning ideological labels, emphasizing differences between groups, and using an issue to mobilize support for a particular political agenda.
