Description

The patella, more commonly known as the kneecap, is a small, flat, triangular bone at the front of the knee joint. It does more than sit there. It helps protect the knee and helps the leg move more smoothly when you walk, run, jump, or straighten your leg. If you hit the front of your knee, you are often feeling the impact on this bone. A broken or dislocated patella can be very painful and may need medical care.
