A "paceman" is not someone who sets the pace for a walk. In cricket, it means a fast bowler, a player who sends the ball down at high speed. Think of this player as one of the quick bowlers in the team. They use speed, bounce, and movement to trouble batters and take wickets.

While all bowlers try to get batters out, a paceman does it mainly with speed. A team may have several of them, each with a different style. "Fast bowler" is the clearer and more general term, but "paceman" is a familiar cricket word with a slightly informal feel. Outside cricket talk, you will hardly hear it at all. In everyday use, it simply means a quick bowler in cricket.
