The word "nimbus" has two main meanings, and both involve something that surrounds. First, it can mean a rain cloud, especially a dark cloud heavy with water. Second, it can mean a halo, glow, or aura around a person, object, or figure. This sense is common in art, especially religious art, where a saint or holy figure may be shown with a golden nimbus around the head. In writing, the word can also suggest a special air around someone, as if light, dignity, or mystery travels with them.
