A minim is a small word with a very exact feel. In music, especially in British English, it is the usual name for a half-note, a note worth half the length of a semibreve. It is also an old unit for a very small amount of liquid, close to a single drop. Outside those technical uses, it can appear in literary or formal writing to mean a very tiny amount. If someone shows only a minim of interest, the idea is that almost nothing is there.

The word "minim" comes from the Latin minimus, meaning "least." In music, its history goes back many centuries. That use is much less common than related words like "minimum," but it still carries a clear sense of something almost too small to notice.
