It is often linked to conditions such as celiac disease (an autoimmune reaction to gluten), Crohn's disease (a type of inflammatory bowel disease), cystic fibrosis, lactose intolerance, or certain infections.
Diagnosis usually involves blood tests to check nutrient levels, stool tests to analyze fat content, and sometimes a biopsy of the small intestine. Treatment focuses on finding and treating the underlying cause, along with managing symptoms through dietary changes and supplements for missing nutrients. So, while malabsorption is not usually a disease by itself, it is an important sign that something deeper is affecting the digestive system and needs careful attention.
